Way too many factors go into me hating this guy. I don't like him either. I'll put down why I hate him later on if Ryoma fans decide to come in here and ask why.

Here are some reasons.
Sure at the beginning, I'll admit that I liked Ryoma too. But then I asked myself, why do I like this guy? I re-read the manga and re-watched the anime for this purpose.
Here we have this cocky and arrogant kid that's just too unreal. I don't care if his dad is Samurai Nanjiroh himself, realistically studies show that children of superstar athletes just suck. (Basketball legend Michael Jordan, his son sucks balls) He's lucky he's only a manga/anime character. His cold and cocky attitude to where areas in real life no one would really like him, they would think that he's just a jerk. In the anime he's considered cool and an icon with the ladies for that.
Here's Ryoma Echizen, an ambidextrous kid that yes, joined the regulars in his first year just like Tezuka did, just like Genichirou did for Rikkai. Yet Echizen was able to compete with and even DEFEAT the great Sanada Genichirou.
He's just too unreal of a character for even the PoT world. He's this little punk that can seemingly EASILY matchup against those that are considered to be the best at what they do. Like Kaidoh and his stamina, Momo' and his jumping ability, to an extent when he has to he does acrobatic moves like Eiji, he also seems to have an unreal amount of power for someone his size being able to compete with power players. He's also like Kabaji where before he even attained Muga no Kyochi he's able to copy everyones special techniques just by watching them a few times. For a kid that has unlimited stamina, can jump like crazy, do acrobatic moves like Eiji's, have unreal vision like Eiji's, and everything else, isnt his ability to be able to copy everything just TOO much? Not to mention that he's able to analyze his opponents and make counter-attacks to his opponent on the very next serve. He might as well be perfect, the hell does he need to open the Pinnacle of Perfection for? Just like others, I have a big problem with perfection. To make it even worse... HE'S ONLY TWELVE YEARS OLD.
Also, I started questioning this guys moral values. Like that time when he knocked Sengoku out with the tennis ball on the string. He just left him there like, "Oh well." Then later on when confronted about the situation by Sengoku Ryoma claims that he's never even seen the guy before.
Also when you look at his character. Being cocky and arrogant in my book is fine to an extent. But when you're echizen and don't even pay attention to other players that are considered great, that's just too much for me. Like again, when Sengoku was mentioned as a great player and was called Japans Senbatsu star, he didn't care. He just walked on as if he was the best tennis player to ever be. Which in Prince Of Tennis, he might as well be. It started to make me think, that maybe guys like Shinji, Fuji, Atobe, and Sanada were greatly overrated just so Ryoma could look like a prince rising to his thrown. Please, defeating ATOBE? I thought it was REALLY weird that Tezuka was playing singles 2. The whole Hyotei throwing everything they have at Seigaku is a good storyline, but it looked like an excuse for Echizen to rise even more. Defeating Atobe with a technique that not even Tezuka has perfected (The Echizen Zone, his fathers technique)? Homie PLEASE. Get outta here with this kid.
In the manga and anime I'll give it to him for defeating Genichirou. Genichirou afterall was holding back for the nationals and sealed off his two ultimate moves to defeat Tezuka.

Yeah, also, something confuses me, the whole "Echizen=perfect" is great and all (not really), but how come other people get things faster than he does? Like the Mirage (in the anime) that the Jyosei guy did, Oshitari defeated it in one serve, it took Echizen forever. And Shinji's spot, Dabide defeated that in like one game (as in four serves) that took Echizen longer too, so how is he the "amazing rookie" ?

My guess is that, while they were playing, they heard the explanations of each shot/technique the first time they were used while they were playing and were able to come up with strategies faster then Ryoma could because of that. Like Shinji's spot, Ryoma didn't even know what was going on until Inui finally explained the whole muscle contraction thing.

I think Echizen Ryoma is okay. He's not that bad although sometimes, his attitude is not good. I think it will be a good chance for him to lose an official match in order to change his attitude but Konomi Takeshi might not let that happen. By the way, I can't vote because there's not "okay" option on the poll.

I Hate as well and for the exact same reasons you put down whisper-senpai. Ryoma is just to unreal, I mean at least make him lose a couple times like in what happened in pokemon. But the fact that he has muga no kyochi made me hate him like crazy. I mean he's basically ripping off moves that have taken years to do for some people and he just goes around just copying people's moves. I just found it pathetic when he had to copy tezuka zone just to defeat atobe's koori no sakei. I mean what the heck? ? In fact I loved when atobe uses koori no sakei to win that point and he says "That's enough..." That whole line just made me agree with atobe. I mean can we get any cheaper character than ryoma who has so many abilities! In my book ryoma is as weak as 12 year old who has to go around ripping people's moves off.

Oh, just bloody screw Ryoma.
I used to be okay with him, so-so, but after he defeated Atobe, Sanada, and probably Yukimura and Tezuka, I freaked out.
He's like as modest as a sack of potatoes. Okay, even the potatoes are more modest than he is. He's got this holier-than-thou attitude everywhere he goes (Even more than Atobe, which is already irritating and absurd).
Especially after he received that Muga no Kyochi with the fight against Kirihara. I would rather hara-kiri than to admit him as the greatest. It's such a cheap move, and he uses it all the time and claims the win as his own. I mean PLEASE, he's just this jerk that copies great tennis moves from other people. The people in the doors are much better than he is, and the people not in Muga no Kyochi or related to it in any way whatsoever is at least trying their hardest. You don't get much joy from getting a win you don't rightfully deserve, which may explain why he's such a suck-up kid.
Even Kirihara only use the Muga no Kyochi as a last resort, unlike Ryoma who activates it everytime, gets the side-effects, nearly dies, gary-stu round a bit, regain his energy and kill off his opponent.
And his suitors just add on to my hate for him. And the girls. How can they have such bad taste in guys. I want to puke. Lemme get a bucket...
Overall rating for Ryoma is negative infinity square.
Okay, so my post isn't as long as Whisper-senapi's, but it counts right? xD
*oh, about the question on how he dies, I would LOVE to see him lose his official match (which does not mean a tough match. A kickass match 6-0 is more like it) and dies of shock. xD It would be so hilarious and fitting. I wonder if Konomi had thought of that.
Now on another point. I'm sortof wondering that with so many people hating Ryoma's guts even out of Japan, how many hatemail for Ryoma did he receive? Konomi should have tweaked Ryoma a bit right? Its impossible for Konomi not to have ANY Ryoma flamemail, or I shall send him one so he'll get Ryoma to lose. xD
*Just have to keep editting this until I get somewhere...Oh well. The Mirage and Spot cannot be defeated by Ryoma, because he is a naive and childish 12 year old boy who plans on winning the world in tennis. Nuff said.
Swear words. How I wish they are allowed in forums. How I can curse Ryoma like a sailor to no end. It'll be so amusing.

I doesnt like Ryoma ether...or...he is probably okay. I doesnt like that he is winning all his matches, but sometimes, he DOES have a hard time against the good players. Just like with the mirage thing. He HAD a hard time, until Eiji told him what was going on. Ryoma had probably lost that match if it wasnt for Eiji-sama. And, inside aaaall hi´s coolness, im sure that he has a good and kind heart ( sorry for sounding like a jerk )

Er... well, I like him. Im not his fan, but I didn't hate him. He's arrogant, that's true. But sometimes, he can be a good kohai who care with his senpai (especially in anime). But yeah, he has bad anttitude.. And I think it's true that Konomi-sensei make him just like a perfect. I wanna see his face when he lose too!! ;D

Keh, my perspective on Ryoma is based mainly on the manga. I don't like the anime much at all. The Jyosei Shonan arch, the only one I watched was Kaidoh's match vs the changeover guy, because I read a description on that one guys mirage shot before watching it and wtf? Having the ball change its spin in mid-air? A lot of shots in the anime/manga are insane as it is but at least most of them can be done in real life to a certain extent.
Anyways, yes. We gotta email Konomi and tell him to make Ryoma lose against Yukimura before it's too late.

What?! I wrote such a long passage and all you people look at is the hatemail bit xD JKJK/
I think Konomi should have in his official website if he has one. It wasn't actually stated in the book alot.
And I went over my Chaper 332 to 341 over and over again and came up with this. Kintarou = Ryoma + PoP (This might belong to PoP thread, but its connected to Ryoma)
So isn't it Kintarou>Ryoma? Kintarou is arguably the best. He pwn Ryoma to no end. And if Kintarou would open the PoP, he would win Yukimura. I bet my stuffed toy on it.

Stuffed toy? Well let me check if konomi does have a website... Well true the mirage was a not possible shot... however same goes for the cyclone smash, when I watched ryoma do that I'm like what the hell?! At first I thought Ryoma turned into a monkey, I mean you cannot bend your body like that and not break it.
