Anime for the fun humor, and manga for the more awesome matches.

Yes, especially the vs. Kantou!Rikkai. D1 and S2 in the manga are much, much better.
And FuuRinKaZa too...

^^yes especially seeing Fuji blind!! I just thought that was just awesome.
I like both.. The anime because you see action and hilarious fillers that make me fall out laughing and I jus can't stop!! And ryoma getting owned... I was so happy I cried.
The manga because it has a darker "aura" around it and there are variations of matches that I like better. It also lets me imgine what ppl are thinking

the matches in the manga are what the mangaka intended it to be while the anime matches were designed for tv

The fact that Momoshiro and Kaidoh got murdered there was no close loss like the anime. I'm not gonna go into detail about the Fuji vs. Kirihara match differences.

I would just start at 185 and read from Ryoma vs. Kirihara all the way through the Rikkaidai matches.

A thought just crossed my mind: If the Manga and Anime (the episodes are usually released after the Manga chapters come out) are exactly the same, won't people who have read the Manga get bored of the Anime, if it weren't for changes and fillers? So in this case, both have their pro's and con's. That's exactly why the anime/manga is different. Not only was it kinda serious, but Konomi said it would be boring to just watch what manga readers have already read. Albeit that, I haven't really been overly impressed with the anime versions of the Nationals in the OAV's. My mind just seems to have interpreted the matches to be way more intense then what they're showing. Like in the recent episodes, 18 & 19. Kintarou's Delicious Mountain Storm thing looked lame. And Tezuka vs Chitose? They didn't even have their auras. They were just... them, saying I will end this in this number of turns! No aura to amplify anything.
