What is the best canvas type to use with oil paint

I am trying to learn about oil paints for a character I'm writing about. She's a multimedia artist so the canvas would have to hold up against having things attached to it. Honestly I'm not altogether sure about how much she can do because I know so little about canvas types. Help?
