O.K. guys I'm popping this one out of the blue...it must have been months since marui asked me to put up my research on rikkaidai, but I refused him then saying that it was hard to gather info on moves that haven't all been seen. But after keeping up with the manga I think I can get down most of the team.... or at least I hope. I will put up sanada, renji, and kirihara soon or at least tommorow seeing midterm exams will keep me busy next week. If you guys are enthusatic about this I will try putting it up this instant.
(Oh sorry for not developing the other moves thread the one with the seigaku regulars, I'll finish it sometime. I promise!)

while wikipedia does have stuff, shiraishi explains it more... scientifically right? question: do rikkai have a lot of moves? like i know kirihara, sanada, and marui have some named ones but what about the rest of the team?

well thanks guys I'll get to work and my research isn't a reiteration of wiki. I tell people how to do the move if possible and how it works- in short physics and anatomy of PoT.
Genichirou Sanada- all the moves use a continental grip
invisible swing (aka fuu)- the swing is based on perception of counter attack in which the opponent has no time to react to the shot. It's done holding a continental grip which took me a long time to figure out because he hit the shot high up and with a swing pattern similar to a western or semi-western. But I found out that the generation of momentum is not as great as when you use a continental. In the old days continental was used for everything with a compact swing which generates great force in the ball. The grip can also be used to make a fast momentum swing in which the ball is caught as a compact swing and the follow through is fast making the swing itself invisible. We often see pro's using this a lot at the net when the opponent is off balance.
To do the shot stand in the stance that genichirou does. It's an open stance with the racket above your dominant shoulder also crouch so that the ball is higher. The shot is created by a momentum in the swing, so in order to do the shot you need shoulder flexibility to make a long swing at the ball. start fast and on contact with the ball feel the shot leave the racket face before continuing. THIS IS IMPORTANT! If you follow through fast the whole way the ball will go to far to the left and go out. This swing needs practice and i recommend a long swing style racket, my head ti 1 works great for this. Oh and more on momentum I believe the generation is also done by the swing of the whole upper body along with the swing of the arm and racket. Try practicing the swing and when you master it try hitting the ball at different intervals. Try hitting the ball forward, and a little backwards as well. But I really suggest you use the swing when the ball is high or else it'll go out. Invisible serve this serve is done the same way as the swing except now you have more power to do it and create a much faster swing. I can't tell you what type of spin is placed on the ball since you can vary it from slice to flat. the thing is notice when genichirou does it he throws the ball straight up in front of him and his swing is produced exactly before point of contact, and the swing continues downward. takes some work but it has a satisfying result.
well that's for the day I'll finish genichirou another day.
